Who We Are Looking For:

Ariam Shed CIC is seeking a Skilled Volunteer with accounting expertise to help them establish sound financial systems and ensure they meet their compliance obligations as a newly registered CIC.

Project Brief:

Ariam Shed CIC currently manages its finances through a Google spreadsheet and is looking to build this into a more robust and compliant system as the organisation grows. They would value expert guidance to put the right processes and tools in place from the outset, ensuring strong governance as they grow.

The Skilled Volunteer will:
  • Help Ariam Shed CIC choose and set up suitable accounting software and financial processes
  • Advise on HMRC requirements, ensuring compliance when paying directors, freelancers, and other suppliers
  • Help prepare the organisation for annual accounts, founder reports, Corporation Tax, and CIC declaration

Who You’ll Be Supporting:

Ariam Shed CIC runs a community workshop in Haringey where local residents come together to repair, repurpose, and reinvent discarded furniture, combining practical skills with wellbeing, connection, and environmental action. Their work responds to a striking problem: around 670,000 tonnes of potentially reusable furniture are dumped in UK landfills every year, and Ariam Shed CIC is determined to be part of the solution, one piece at a time.

Your Impact:

By helping Ariam Shed CIC build a strong and compliant financial foundation, you will free them to focus on what they do best: welcoming local residents into a space where they can learn new skills, build friendships, and improve their wellbeing, all while helping the community reduce waste and give discarded furniture a new lease of life.

Please note: This project has an estimated time commitment of 2 hours per week for 3 months, totalling around 24 hours. All Link UP London Skilled Volunteering Projects are designed to work flexibly around the schedule of the Skilled Volunteer. This time commitment can be agreed and spread over a time frame that works for both the Skilled Volunteer and the organisation they are supporting.
