Who we are looking for: For this role we’re looking for a volunteer who can create communication strategies that guide organisations across a number of years, whilst allowing flexibility for any new developments.
Project brief: Balham & Tooting Social Club are in need of a communications strategy that will act as the guideline for growing awareness about the proposed Windrush House.
Balham & Tooting Social Club are looking to develop their clubhouse and create a multi-function commercial, heritage and social-outreach building to serve the community and to celebrate that community’s contribution to British society. The space will be called Windrush House, and will act as a living museum where the wider community can learn about the Windrush generations contribution to music, food, culture and enterprise. The proposed developments will take a number of years if successful, therefore any communication strategy will need to factor in the phases of development and how communication changes with this development.
Who you’ll be supporting: Balham & Tooting Social Club, operating from a 3 story building in Balham, began operating in 1970’s as a way for local Caribbean people to socialise. Since then the organisation also utilises volunteers to provide Befriending and Welfare services to elderly people. It provides sports and social activities aimed at alleviating isolation and loneliness and supports housebound people who are cut off from their families and the wider society. It also provides activities to bring families and the wider community together.
Time commitment: This project has an estimated time commitment of 2.5 hours per week for 3 months, totalling around 30 hours. All Link UP London Skilled Volunteering Projects are designed to work flexibly around the schedule of the Skilled Volunteer. This time commitment can be agreed and spread over a time frame that works for both the Skilled Volunteer and the SGO they are supporting.
