Who We Are Looking For:

Kingston Mencap is seeking a Skilled Volunteer with expertise in HR and governance policy to review and update their existing policies and procedures, and to advise on any additional documents the organisation may be required to hold.

Project Brief:

Kingston Mencap is a growing, currently voluntary-run organisation. With exciting funding opportunities on the horizon, they want to ensure their HR and governance policies are robust, compliant, and ready to support the organisation’s next phase of growth.
The Skilled Volunteer will:
  • Review current policies and requirements, assessing existing documents against best practice and identifying any gaps, particularly around safeguarding and safer recruitment.
  • Update or draft policies as required, ensuring they are clear, compliant, and appropriate for an organisation supporting vulnerable adults.
  • Give general advice on HR and governance practices at the organisation, helping the trustees build a solid foundation as Kingston Mencap continues to grow.

Who You’ll Be Supporting:

Kingston Mencap provides social opportunities and experiences for people with a learning disability in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. Their vision is to enhance the lives of people with a learning disability, alongside their friends, family and supporters, so that all can live full and rewarding lives. Through four weekly activity clubs, they bring together a membership of around 100 people, with 70 active members regularly attending to socialise, take part in activities, and build friendships.

Your Impact:

By strengthening Kingston Mencap’s governance foundations, this volunteer will help ensure the organisation can continue operating safely and responsibly, giving the confidence needed to keep welcoming members. This directly protects and supports the people with learning disabilities who rely on these clubs each week for friendship, activity and a sense of belonging.

Please note: This project has an estimated time commitment of 2 hours per week for 3 months, totalling around 24 hours. All Link UP London Skilled Volunteering Projects are designed to work flexibly around the schedule of the Skilled Volunteer. This time commitment can be agreed and spread over a time frame that works for both the Skilled Volunteer and the SGO they are supporting.
