Who We Are Looking For:

Richmond Furniture Scheme is seeking a Skilled Volunteer with expertise in marketing and communications to help them reach a wider audience and grow their customer base. The ideal candidate will have social media experience, confidence with campaign development, and the ability to create content templates the team can use going forward.

Project Brief:

As Richmond Furniture Scheme provides more furniture at a discount to customers on low incomes, they also need to attract more full-price customers to keep the charity financially sustainable. To attract new customers and raise the organisation’s profile, they are looking for support to plan and deliver a social media campaign.
The Skilled Volunteer will:
  • Help plan a social media campaign, developing key messaging and identifying how to best reach target audiences.
  • Help develop content templates, then support with delivering and monitoring the campaign, mentoring the team through the process so it can be repeated independently in future.
  • Provide general advice on Richmond Furniture Scheme’s wider communications and how these could be improved.

Who You’ll Be Supporting:

Richmond Furniture Scheme is a community-based furniture reuse charity that gives new life to donated furniture and refurbished appliances — saving the planet one sofa at a time. Each year, RFS diverts hundreds of tonnes of usable furniture from landfill, while providing essential household items to people in need across Richmond and beyond. They also offer volunteering, training, and employment opportunities that build confidence, skills, and community connections.

Your Impact:

Furniture poverty is widely overlooked, yet campaign group End Furniture Poverty estimates six million people in the UK cannot afford essential furniture and appliances, leaving children without beds and families feeling isolated and ashamed to invite others into their homes. By helping Richmond Furniture Scheme reach more full-price customers, this project will strengthen the charity’s ability to keep offering discounted, essential furniture to those who need it most.

Please note: This project has an estimated time commitment of 2 hours per week for 3 months, totalling around 24 hours. All Link UP London Skilled Volunteering Projects are designed to work flexibly around the schedule of the Skilled Volunteer. This time commitment can be agreed and spread over a time frame that works for both the Skilled Volunteer and the organisation they are supporting.
