Growing Reach and Impact at Cheri Coco

Cheri Coco is a grassroots initiative supporting Global Majority communities in South Kensington and Chelsea. Through arts, culture, and wellbeing programmes, they create welcoming spaces where people can celebrate identity, build connection, and feel a true sense of belonging.

As their work grew, the team wanted to strengthen their social media presence and communications to reach more people and share their impact more effectively. That’s where they came to Link UP London for support.

The Challenge

As a small, community-led organisation, Cheri Coco had strong stories to tell but limited capacity to consistently plan, create, and manage engaging digital content. They wanted to improve visibility online, better communicate their mission, and build a more sustainable approach to social media.

The Skilled Volunteer

Cheri Coco was matched with Skilled Volunteer Anfal Elshaikh, who combined strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in fast-moving, cross-functional teams. Alongside her professional expertise, Anfal also had volunteering experience in social media. Passionate about the charity sector, she helped improve Cheri Coco’s digital and social media presence, making their communications clearer, more engaging, and more effective.

The Project

Working closely with the team, Anfal took the time to understand Cheri Coco’s existing social media presence, identifying what was working well and where there was room to grow. She helped shape a clear and tailored content approach that reflected their mission and connected with their audiences, while also introducing simple tools, templates, and practical ways of working to make content creation more manageable for the team going forward.

The Impact

The project has strengthened how Cheri Coco communicates externally, helping the team better express their mission and engage new audiences. They now have clearer objectives, a more focused social media strategy, and greater confidence in continuing to build their digital presence.

As the team shared, “We have been well supported throughout the project and equipped with tools to continue our reach on social media.”

The impact has also lasted beyond the project itself. Anfal has stayed connected with the organisation, continuing to champion their work. Reflecting on the experience, she shared, “I greatly enjoyed being able to help Cheri Coco bring some of their ideas to life and have developed relationships that I will take with me beyond this project.”

The Outcome

Through the Skilled Volunteering project, Cheri Coco is now better positioned to grow its visibility, attract new stakeholders, and strengthen future funding applications – helping them expand their work with the community and continue celebrating diversity, pride, and belonging across London.
