Katie & Wandsworth Mediation Service

Wandsworth Mediation Service is passionate about bridging gaps between those in conflict, believing that mediation can restore relationships, resolve conflict and help people strive towards better future. With the support of highly trained, experienced and committed mediators, as well as tailor-made training programmes, the organisation supports and equips neighbourhoods with transferable skills that can help strengthen relationships.

“Volunteering with Link UP has been a very positive experience for me. Not only have I been able to apply my legal skills to a good cause, but I have had the opportunity to peak inside a local charity that offers a valuable service. I’ve been keen to learn more about mediation for a long time, and through the charity I have learnt about a resolution technique that could directly benefit my legal clients. And I’ve made some wonderful contacts along the way.”

The Problem

Wandsworth Mediation Service is modernising and expanding its outreach and wanted to make sure that their policy documents and handbooks are all up-to-date and accurate.

The Solution

Katie, a solicitor with her own practice, lives locally and was interested in sharing her skills with a worthy cause in the community. Assisting WMS with their policy guidelines allowed her to use her knowledge of employment, charity and data protection law to help this organisation ensure that they are well structured for their anticipated growth.

The Result

Wandsworth Mediation Service has revised policy documents that have been created specifically for them, reflecting how they operate and are of the standard this growing organisation needs. Katie has offered them professional, high quality, thorough and logical advice and has helped them to understand all relevant legal issues.

“We now have a new Office Handbook, which is not simply a precedent that has been tweaked, but sets out the internal policies and procedures in line with how our charity operates. It is easy to read and understand, and we are very appreciative of the work that Katie did for us. Working with Katie was very easy, she understood the needs of our charity, worked quickly and efficiently, and her advice was comprehensive and easy to understand. She was a perfect match for us!”
