Making a Difference with a Social Strategy: Nicola’s Journey with Da’aro Youth

With Link UP London’s help, skilled volunteer Nicola stepped in to bring a fresh perspective to Da’aro Youth’s social media strategy. This project highlights the impact that skilled volunteers can have on organisations that may not otherwise have access to specific expertise!

About Da’aro Youth Project

Da’aro Youth Project is a wonderful organisation dedicated to supporting young asylum-seekers and refugees from the Horn of Africa, empowering them to overcome challenges and find success in the UK. Their mission is to support these young individuals’ integration, creating a safe and inclusive space where they can thrive. Da’aro’s work promotes peace and empathy in the community, giving young refugees hope for a brighter future.

The Project

Da’aro Youth recognised the need for a skilled social media strategy to reach their audiences more effectively and engage with potential supporters. Nicola, a seasoned marketing and communications professional, proved to be the perfect match. She reviewed Da’aro Youth’s existing social media efforts and worked with the team to outline a practical plan for growing their online presence. Nicola provided actionable insights for Da’aro to connect with their audience in a way that reflects their mission, emphasising clear objectives, key messaging, and a strategy to track progress.

The Result

Nicola’s contributions made a huge difference. Yorsalem Feseha from Da’aro Youth expressed deep gratitude, saying, “I feel more confident to create meaningful and engaging posts for our social media that will allow us to reach our targets. We have already started implementing the strategy, and I can already see where we were going wrong previously and how Nicola’s audit has helped to take us to the next stage.”

Nicola brought fresh ideas and perspectives that were essential for refining their communications approach. “Link UP London were able to connect us with an amazing volunteer to help us work on a social media strategy. Nicola worked to understand the Da’aro Youth Project and provided us with an accessible and easy-to-understand strategy which we can implement straight away,” said Yorsalem.

“Akash from Link UP London was great in finding a volunteer who aligned well with our vision and continuously checked in on our progress throughout.”

Volunteer Perspective

Nicola felt the experience was equally fulfilling. She shared, “Volunteering allows me to contribute to the community and feel more purposeful. It’s impossible to achieve anything with your marketing activities without a strategy in place. I had the pleasure of helping Da’aro Youth Project with their social strategy via Link UP London. It’s such a rewarding feeling when your work pays off.”

Da’aro Youth hopes this strategy will strengthen their online presence, reaching a larger audience and helping them connect with supporters more meaningfully. With clearer objectives, stronger communications, and better tools to monitor and report their impact, Da’aro Youth is now equipped to continue making a difference, supported by the expertise Nicola provided.

This collaboration shows the real value of Link UP London’s skilled volunteering programme, creating long-lasting impact for both the organisations and the volunteers who support them.
