When The Baked Bean Charity connected with Link UP London, they knew it was time to bring more strategy to their communications. Their team had worked hard to build an online presence that reflected the energy of their classes, but with growth came new ambitions – to reach wider audiences, attract attention to their events, and tell their story with greater clarity and consistency.
About The Baked Bean Charity
The Baked Bean Charity champions people with learning disabilities through creative arts and well-being programmes that push boundaries and empower lives. With classes running six days a week, they create opportunities to perform, travel, and inspire the wider community.
The Challenge
The charity had built a vibrant online presence through hands-on effort, but as they grew, they needed a more strategic approach. They wanted a clear communications strategy to expand their reach, attract wider audiences, and build a consistent brand voice that truly reflected the energy of their classrooms.
The Skilled Volunteer
That’s where Ros, a Skilled Volunteer with expertise in marketing and communications, stepped in. Working closely with Charlotte from the Baked Bean team, Ros created a comprehensive communications strategy and helped shape the way the charity presents itself to the world.
Charlotte explained:
“Ros both created and guided me through some really cohesive communication strategy documentation that has put me in good stead for producing a piece of work that is transferrable and easy to decipher. Ros also helped us with some production formality advice to do with tv production which has been a great help and we are still using currently during the negotiation process.”
The Impact
With Ros’s guidance, The Baked Bean Charity now has a 12-month roadmap and practical tools to manage their communications with confidence.
Charlotte shared: “Ros gave me a clear breakdown of what to focus on over the next 12 months for comms, and has advised on how I can keep on top of this work with the help of different online programmes and apps.”
The results are already clear: stronger communications, clearer objectives, and a sharper identity.
“Ros has helped to shape how we present ourselves as an organisation to the outside world. We have never felt more like us.”
The Volunteer Experience
For Ros, the project was just as meaningful: “Working with The Baked Bean Charity was a match made in heaven for me. I loved meeting the team and the Baked Bean community, finding out what makes them tick, and seeing the incredible creative energy behind all their work. It was a real pleasure working with Charlotte to set a clear pathway for bringing Baked Bean’s amazing work to a broader audience. From a great starting point, I can see The Baked Bean Charity going from strength to strength – and gaining the recognition it deserves for its inspirational mission.”
Looking Forward
Thanks to this Skilled Volunteering Project, The Baked Bean Charity has the strategy and confidence to share its story more widely, strengthen its identity, and continue championing people with learning disabilities through creativity and performance.
