Strategic Growth for Why Care: Crafting a Robust Business Plan

Why Care, a social enterprise dedicated to providing stable foster homes for vulnerable children, partnered with Link UP London to enhance its strategic direction and financial sustainability.

With a mission to recruit, assess, and support foster carers from diverse backgrounds, Why Care sought to expand its impact. By collaborating with Brynn Elcock Smart, a seasoned business consultant and Link UP skilled volunteer, the organisation aimed to create a comprehensive business plan that would strengthen its position and enable it to support more children in need.

Brynn’s expertise in business planning and strategy proved invaluable as she worked closely with Why Care’s founder and CEO, Niketa Sanderson-Gillard, to develop a clear vision and financial roadmap. Together, they explored innovative ways to expand partnerships with local authorities and increase the number of foster carers, ultimately improving the lives of vulnerable children.

The Result

This project achieved a fantastic result, a business plan has been developed to guide Why Care’s growth over the next 12 months. The plan outlines clear steps for strengthening partnerships with local authorities, identifying new funding sources, and improving the organisation’s financial stability! These efforts combined aim to ensure that Why Care can continue providing essential support to foster carers and the children they care for.

In addition to the business plan, a five-year financial model has been created to help forecast the organisation’s financial future. This model provides a solid foundation for long-term planning and decision-making. With a well-defined strategy and a clear financial roadmap, Why Care is well-positioned to grow and support even more foster carers in the coming years.

Niketa commented “The business plan will be a live document that I’ll continue to inform and evolve for us. It has also informed our fundraising strategy.” she continued. “Brynn was exceptional, in terms of skill, professionalism and ease to work with. Her work is already helping to shape the organisational strategy and is informing conversations we are having as well as giving evidence to potential funders.”

The project was highly rewarding for Brynn too, boosting her self-confidence and allowing her to contribute to the community. She described the experience as “Incredible from start to finish. Niketa was a joy to work with – her passion is infectious, and I learned so much from her wealth of knowledge & expertise.”

Overall, the project was a success, providing valuable insights and benefiting both the charity and skilled volunteer Brynn. A total win-win for all involved.
