Age UK Lambeth is an independent local charity providing a range of social and practical support for the older people in Lambeth. They offer a large variety of services including information and advice, social activities, a handyperson service, learning opportunities and many more.
In 2017, Age UK Lambeth launched a new service called MYsocial, with the purpose of bringing people of all ages together through an events calendar and learning opportunities. With the Purpose, Vision and Structure of the project already in place, the organisation needed a branding expert to help develop the project further with an accessible, appealing brand which also complemented their umbrella branding.
Link UP Skilled Volunteer and Marketing Director, Naomi W has over 20 years of extensive Marketing experience across a wide range of media including Brand Development experience, so was well-suited to lead the creations of a new brand identity for Age UK Lambeth’s service that would be engaging and impactful.
Once Naomi had researched the service, she created the brand essence and brand personality and wrote a creative brief that required the support of a Graphic Designer to bring the visual identity to life. Link UP was ready with the perfect candidate; Skilled Volunteer and Graphic Designer, Chiara B, brought almost 10 years’ experience in brand design to the table, with a portfolio full of eye-catching marketing materials including logos, catalogues, brochures, displays, presentations and web content.
Together, Naomi and Chiara were a great team that aligned their skills to develop an exceptional brand identity for Age UK Lambeth’s MYSocial service, along with the creation of new Brand Guidelines.
Naomi said, “It was a great use of my skills and it was wonderful to work with such a professional team who really appreciated what I brought to the project. It was insightful and inspiring to meet the MYSocial members in the initial phase, which informed the creative brief that formed the basis of the brand development process.” – Skilled Volunteer, Naomi
Skilled Volunteering is invaluable to charitable organisations because it provides much needed support to help grow their organisation and reach more people in need, but it’s also valuable to the volunteers themselves. Many people sharing their skills claim to feel more purposeful, improve self-confidence and develop skills and interests.
Graphic Designer Chiara commented, “Working with such a great team was absolutely brilliant, I was able to make great use of my skills and learn from great professionals; the whole project gave me a strong sense of purpose alongside the chance to give something back to the community, by making a little difference. It’s something I’d definitely do again. Everyone can make a difference, no matter how small that is.”
Naomi and Chiara were also recognised at Link UP’s Changemakers Meet UP in June 2021 when they were presented with the ‘Team work makes the dream work’ award!
The end result of this Skilled Volunteering Project was welcoming and easy to understand which is exactly what was needed to engage the Intergenerational target audience of Age UK Lambeth’s ‘Age Strong Project’.
